Winning a BPIF Cartons award is a significant achievement. Recognition from a sector body comes
from people who work in cartons every day and know exactly what good looks like, which makes it a
genuine mark of standing among peers rather than a general commendation. For an apprentice to be
singled out in that company says a great deal about the standard of Kaden’s work.
The Print Technician apprenticeship
Print technicians are the people who make the product. The apprenticeship covers print processes
and how to choose between them, setting up and running production equipment, working with
different substrates and materials, colour and quality control, routine maintenance and
fault-finding, and health and safety on a working production floor.
It is all learned on the job. Apprentices are in production from the start, building the practical
judgement that only comes from running real work — and assessed on evidence drawn from that
work rather than on classroom exercises. Kaden completed the programme in 2025.
