Just over half way through the apprenticeship with three more topic areas to complete.
What made you decide to undertake an apprenticeship? How did you come to work in print?
I have decided to undertake a supply chain practitioner apprenticeship due to my passion for logistics and operations management. I have always been fascinated by the process of managing the flow of goods and services from the point of origin to the point of consumption. The opportunity to gain practical experience and professional qualifications in this field through an apprenticeship program was an ideal fit for my career aspirations. My entry into the print industry came through a combination of interest in manufacturing and a desire to work in a dynamic and innovative sector. I was drawn to the complex challenges of managing the supply chain in the print industry, which involves coordinating diverse processes such as sourcing raw materials, production, and distribution. This led me to pursue a career in the print industry and further solidified my decision to undertake a supply chain practitioner apprenticeship, as it offered a tailored approach to enter and excel in this specific industry.
Overall, my decision to pursue a supply chain practitioner apprenticeship was driven by my interest in logistics and my ambition to develop a successful career in the print industry. Tell us about some of the key knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed since starting your apprenticeship.
Since starting my supply chain practitioner apprenticeship, I have developed a wide range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours that have helped shape my career in the field. In terms of knowledge, I have gained a deep understanding of procurement processes, inventory management, logistics and transportation, and supply chain optimization. Additionally, I have enhanced my analytical and problem-solving skills, allowing me to effectively identify and address supply chain challenges.
In terms of skills, I have enhanced my ability to use various supply chain management tools and software, which have been invaluable in streamlining operational processes. I have also developed strong communication and negotiation skills, enabling me to effectively liaise with suppliers, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless supply chain operations. Furthermore, the apprenticeship has helped me cultivate important behaviours such as adaptability, resilience, and attention to detail, all of which are critical in the fast-paced and dynamic environment of supply chain management. I have also learned the importance of collaboration and teamwork, as supply chain operations often involve cross-functional coordination and cooperation.
Overall, my supply chain practitioner apprenticeship has provided me with the complete knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours necessary to excel in the field of supply chain management and contribute to the success of any organization.
Tell us about a typical day at work for you.
As a logistic coordinator, a typical day at work involves overseeing and coordinating the movement of goods and products to customers. This requires managing the transportation, storage, and distribution of these items, as well as ensuring that all necessary documentation is in order.
My day often begins with reviewing and updating delivery schedules, communicating with logistics companies, haulers, and customers service team to ensure smooth operations. I also monitor inventory levels and work with the team to prioritize orders and shipments.
Throughout the day, I am responsible for resolving any logistical issues that may arise, such as delays in shipments or changes in delivery requirements. I also analyse data to identify areas for improvement in our logistics costs and operations.
Additionally, I work closely with other departments, such as production and sales, to coordinate supply and demand, and to ensure that all parties are informed and aligned on delivery timelines and requirements. Overall, my role as a logistic coordinator requires me to be organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure efficient and reliable logistics operations.
What’s the most enjoyable part of your apprenticeship?
The most enjoyable part of my supply chain practitioner apprenticeship is the hands-on experience and the practical application of the skills and knowledge I have gained. Working alongside professionals in the field has provided me with a real-world understanding of the complexities and challenges of supply chain management. Additionally, the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and see the direct impact of my work within the organization has been incredibly rewarding. The mentorship and guidance I have received from experienced professionals have also been invaluable in shaping my understanding of the industry and preparing me for a successful career in supply chain management. Overall, the practical experience and professional development opportunities associated with my apprenticeship have made it an enriching and enjoyable learning experience.
What do you see yourself doing on achievement of your apprenticeship?
I will consider pursuing higher-level apprenticeship, such as a Level 5 apprenticeship / bachelor’s degree apprenticeship along with CPD certifications in supply chain management or related fields to further enhance my skills and knowledge.
